I know I don’t need to tell you how big a deal it is to book your wedding photographer. After all, your wedding photos are all that is left over from your wedding.
You don’t need to consider a 1000 things.
Here are 3 essential things, I believe, you need to consider when hiring your wedding photographer.
1. Am I in love with their work?
Do I love their style of photography.
With this, I mean, do you like how they edit, how they pose, or don’t pose. Does their work resonate with me?
In short- can you see yourself in their photos.
The odds of a photographer changing how they edit, or how they shoot is slim. We spend years working on our craft and our style, we also want you to love the look and feel of your photos, so making sure you love our style is a pretty good first step.
If you like light and airy photos, book a photogrpaher that edits that way. If you want candid photos, don’t book a photogrpaher that is more editorial.
2. Do we get along?
Look, let’s just be honest- we are going to be spending a lot of time together! Your photographer is one of the people that spend pretty much the whole day with you.
If my jokes annoy you – we have a problem.
I might take the most epic photos ever, but if we don’t actually ‘click’, and get along, then that will reflect in your photos as well. On your wedding day, I show up like a friend. I belly laugh at the jokes, try to keep it together when you walk down the aisle, so I kind of low- key feel like we should get along like long lost friends.
Connecting with your photographer is a pretty big deal.
3. Do I trust this person?
This is the last, and probably most important one.
Do I trust them?
Do I trust that they are able to use their skills and talents to take photos that I will cherish for years. (without feeling the need to be overly prescriptive, sending a 1000 Pinterest images to recreate, because you know making your own epic images matters more)
Do I trust them enough to let go, to enjoy my wedding day (Stress free) because I know my memories are in safe hands.
I 100% believe that better trust = better photos.
And last little note – when you find that photogrpaher, that one that ticks all the boxes, that meet these 3 requirements – book them!
My heart has been so sore when brides get in touch, after waiting too long, only to be met with the words- “ah man! I’m already booked for your wedding date.”
